Who can create a Bill of Material (BOM)

An employee assigned to the Build Plans Manager role can create a Bill of Materials.

How to create a BOM

  • via BOM dashboard: open FCX Web portal → navigate IC group of dashboards → BOM → New BOM
  • via the web card of Build Plan: open a Build Plan via any convenient dashboard (for example, Status dashboard) → switch to the BOM tab → New BOM

Create a new BOM in the BOM dashboard

1. In the BOM dashboard, click the New BOM button.

2. Fill in a Build Plan you need to pull Materials for.

3. Select Warehouse.

Warehouse is automatically filled according to the calculation specification: predefine a WH for a BP under specific dimensions such as Region, Market, Project, Scenario, Customer. Warehouse Lead is a Manager specified in the Office/Department card related to the Warehouse. Choose the WH and WH Lead you want to be responsible for this BOM.

4. The BOM date is filled with the current date by default. Change it if necessary.

5. In the Due date indicate the date the BOM needs to be “Kitted”: picked and prepped for pickup by the crew.

6. Select BOM type. Warehouse Managers (employee role) and Administrators can select what type of BOM to create: original or return, while other users can generate only an original BOM.

7. Type any comments you would like to make in the Comments box.

8. Click Create to continue.

Fill BOM from a BOM Template

BOM Templates can be created where multiple Sites have the same Material needs.

9. In the BOM card, navigate to the Materials tab and click ... (three dot) to expand the drop-down menuthen click Add from Template.

10. View templates from which to populate materials. BOM templates are associated with Projects.

11. Click on   to view materials from the template.

12. Select a BOM template by clicking + to fill in the BOM.

Add Ad Hoc Items to BOM (If Needed)

To add materials to the Bill of Materials (BOM), follow these steps:

  1. Click the ... (ellipsis) button to open the drop-down menu.
  2. Select Add Materials.

You will now see your Material List. Note that your list may differ from the example shown in the screenshot.

3. Browse the list to locate the desired material.

4. In the Material column, click the blue hyperlink to review the Material List Item Card.

Handling Similar Material Names

Some materials in the library may have very similar names (e.g., differing only in size). To ensure you select the correct item:

  • Check the material’s image, Vendor Part Number, and Vendor URL on the Material List Item Card.

Finalizing Material Selection

5. After checking the Material List item card, return to the BOM dashboard (the Select Materials window).

6. Select the checkbox next to the material you wish to add.

7. Click OK to return to the BOM.

Entering the Requested Quantity

8. In the Requested QTY column, enter the quantity of the material you need to withdraw from stock.

  • Use the up and down arrow keys to adjust the quantity.

9. Click any empty space to save the value.

Identify and Address Shortages (Including Missing Materials)

If a material is not found in the Bill of Materials (BOM) or insufficient stock is available, follow the steps outlined in the "Identify Missing Materials" article to resolve the issue.

Include Materials Items to BOM

To add material items (an inventory item entered into accounting with a unique serial number) to the Bill of Materials (BOM), follow these steps:

  1. Click the ... (ellipsis) button to open the drop-down menu.
  2. Select Add Material Items.

You will now see the Material Items List, which includes material items not yet assigned to the BOM and available in the selected warehouse. Note that your list may differ from the example shown in the screenshot.

3. Browse the list to locate the desired material item.

Finalizing Material Items Selection

4. Select the checkbox next to each material item you wish to add.

5. Click OK to return to the BOM.

Entering the Requested Quantity

6. Review the list of added material items. The QTY field is filled automatically based on the number of material items you have added. The quantity cannot be less than the number of added material items but can be greater. If increased, the Pick QTY will automatically adjust to match the number of entered material items in the table.

7. Make any necessary changes, such as deleting an entire material row (which will remove all bonded material items) or deleting specific material items.

Send BOM to Warehouse

Pre-Kitting Work

In the scenario where the BP Manager chooses for the Warehouse to initiate a transfer or MPR to resolve a shortage, he or she will NOT use the “Send to Warehouse” button.

Instead, the BP Manager will create a Material Purchase Request themselves or ask a WH Lead to do this.

Send BOM to WH Via Button When Ready for Kitting

If the BP manager decides to address shortages after kitting starts, the only other step he or she needs to take, under the scope of this Guide, is to click the “Send to Warehouse” button.
