Kitting BOMs
The BOM’s “Kit” lifecycle stage becomes available once you have sent the BOM to the warehouse (by changing the stage accordingly). Anyone with full access to the BOM—such as BP Managers, Warehouse Leads, IC Administrators, etc.—can perform kitting.
Kitting Materials vs. Material Items
The process for kitting materials and material items is slightly different:
- Materials can be kitted either fully or partially.
- Material items can only be kitted in the quantity sent to the warehouse.
Kit Materials
There are two options for kitting materials in a BOM:
1. Kit All Materials
Use this option if the warehouse has enough materials in stock. The requested quantity will equal the available quantity in stock. You can check material balances by looking at the Available QTY column.
2. Kit Partially
This option is used to kit only the materials currently in stock. Since only available quantities are kitted, this option divides the BOM into two parts:
- Kitted BOM: contains the materials that can be picked and kitted now.
- Remaining BOM: stays at the “Sent to Warehouse” stage and contains materials that are missing or have not been fully picked.
Material shortages in the Remaining BOM must be resolved through a purchase request or transfer from another warehouse. The remaining quantity of unpicked materials can be kitted later in the Remaining BOM.
When you partially kit a BOM and a Remaining BOM is created, the system does not send a notification to deliver it to the WH Manager Inbox. The best way to find the Remaining BOM is to open or refresh the BOM Dashboard.
How to Kit Materials:
- Open the Sent to Warehouse BOM.
- Enter the picked quantity in the “Pick QTY” field.
- To autofill the Pick QTY column, click the ... (ellipsis) button and select Pick All QTY option.
- Click the Kit BOM button.
Kit Material Items
To kit material items, simply click the Kit BOM button.
Assigning Material Items When Kitting a BOM
If a material requires a serial number, you will see two options:
- Assign Material Item — opens a list of related material items. Select the required material items to add them to the BOM.
- Remove Material Item — removes the assigned material item(s) from the list.
When a material needs a serial number, you must assign enough material items to match the requested quantity (QTY). If the pick quantity is zero, meaning no MIs are assigned, you cannot finish kitting that material. In this case, the system will create a Remaining BOM for the un-kitted quantity. You can assign MIs to the Remaining BOM later or cancel it if you don’t need to kit the material anymore.
BOM Financial Distribution
Once a kitted BOM is created, the system generates a Financial Distribution. It pulls a Build Plan and BOM Total into the appropriate fields of the Financial Distribution: Build Plan and Amount, respectively.
However, the materials are grouped by billable and non-billable. We take the “billable” marker from the material card and charge the amount to a specific Financial Account. Financial Accounts for billable and non-billable materials are defined in the system setting.
Return BOM to Pending
Use the Return to Pending option to make adjustment to the list of materials, material items before kitting them.
This option is available for original BOMs at the “Sent to Warehouse” stage, provided there are no remaining BOMs.
Complete BOM, Sent to Site
After a BOM is kitted and materials are picked, the next step is to send materials to a Site. To do this, use the appropriate “Complete BOM” button. This moves the BOM to the Completed stage.
