Many types of Equipment come as Kits with accessory tools and parts. These may or may not be kept in a common case.
High-Value Accessories can be entered into FCX as separate Assets, but still be mainly managed as part of their parent’s kit. Kit Accessories with Main Assets by designating them as Related Assets.
Association: Assign 1 Parent per Child
In FCX AM, associations are designated on the Asset card of each kit part. The largest or most valuable / important part of the Kit should usually be designated as the Kit’s “Main” Asset.
Note that the Kit itself does not exist as a separate object. Instead, each “Parent” Asset acts as the entire Kit and container for its descendants. For this reason, the association is always made on the card of the Child Asset.
Select a Parent on a Child Asset Card to Create a Kit
To do this:
- On an Asset card, switch to the “Related Assets and Components” tab of the Main Content pane.
- Click the … (“three dot”) button next to the “Parent Asset” Requisite at the top of the pane.
- Select an Asset as the parent. There is no limitation on which Asset you can select.

Each Asset card shows all Assets it is related to in a hierarchical outline, where the Name of each Asset is a hyperlink to the connected Asset’s card.

- The Green item is the current Asset.
- Bulleted items are descendants of an ancestor.
- The un-bulleted item is the parent.
Change Assets Assignment Affects All Relatives
Reassigning Parent reassigns all Descendants If you assign a Parent Asset to a Location or Employee, the same reassignment will be applied to all descendants. Reassigning a Descendant also reassigns the whole Family, including Ancestors.
IMPORTANT Asset reassignment is inherited by all relatives, regardless of whether they are parents, children or great, grandchildren!
Transfers in FCX App Moves Kits
When you transfer an Asset through the FCX Mobile App, the Parent and Child assets of the Transferred Item will also be transferred to a new Holder.
