Shift Types for Payroll Allocation
Shift Type provides another dimension for matching hours worked to specific wage types, cost types, and payroll items.
It calculates hours worked during specific parts of a shift, such as morning, day, or evening. This ensures accurate matching of hours to payroll items and proper cost rate calculations.
Configuration
- Shift Types are stored in the Shift Types reference, accessible only to the Administrators user group.
- For each Shift Type, configure the start and end time.
- Example: The morning shift runs from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM.
- The FCX team configures cost types by matching them to the required payroll item and Shift Type.
Enabling Shift Types
Shift Types is a custom feature that can be enabled or disabled based on client preferences.
- If enabled, the Shift Type column appears in the Time Card payroll allocation.
- Note: Shift Type is not applicable for reason or meal premium hours in the Time Card payroll allocation table.
- If disabled, the Shift Type feature is not used.
Calculation Rules
There are three rules for Shift Type calculation:
- Disabled: Do not use the Shift Type feature.
- Workshift Start: Assign the Shift Type based on the shift's start time (applies to all hours).
- Shift Time: Assign Shift Types based on the actual time periods within the shift, using configured start and end times.
Example
Shift Types are configured as follows:
| Shift Type | Start Time | End Time |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | 12:00 AM | 8:00 AM |
| Day | 8:00 AM | 4:00 PM |
| Evening | 4:00 PM | 12:00 AM |
A shift runs from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Workshift Start rule: All hours in the Time Card payroll allocation are assigned Morning (based on 7:00 AM start).
- Shift Time rule:
- 7:00 AM–8:00 AM: Morning
- 8:00 AM–4:00 PM: Day
- 4:00 PM–5:00 PM: Evening
